To celebrate our First Year Birthday in June 2012 5minutefiction.co.uk is running a short story competition.
Entries are invited on any subject (but not erotica) and can be between 100 and 1,500 words in length. Closing date 1st June 2012. So get writing!...........

- Stories can be between 100 and 1,500 words in length on any subject..
- Please submit your work typed, double-spaced by email to editor@5minutefiction.co.uk
- Your entry will be judged anonymously by a panel of 3 writers.
- First, second and third places will be judged from a final selection of 10 by public vote.
- Public voting will be by subscription to ensure fairness (see public voting rules below)
- Please submit a short profile plus optional photograph with your story as winners details will be published on the website.
- First prize = £100 (By paypal /cheque /Amazon vouchers /direct payment into bank account)
- Second prize = £50 (By Paypal /cheque/Amazon vouchers/direct payment into bank account)
- Third prize = £25 (By Paypal /cheque /Amazon vouchers /direct payment into bank account)
- No alterations may be made to a story once submitted.
- All entrants will receive confirmation of receipt of entry.
- Public vote of the final 10 entries as selected by our panel will be put to public vote between 16th and 24th June 2012
- The winners will be contacted by email and the winning stories published on the website on 30th June 2012
- Copyright of any story remains with the author, but 5minutefiction.co.uk has the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories on its website, and in any related material for PR purposes.
- Stories should be in English (or English dialect) and should not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
- Stories that have won or are under consideration in other short story competitions are not eligible.
- Stories should not be a translation of another author’s work.
- Entrants must be aged 18 years or over
- Entries must comply to all rules or will be disqualified
- Send your story online to editor@5minutefiction.co.uk
- Mark your entry as '1st Birthday Competition’
- If entering online, be sure to follow the instructions on the website carefully. Stories should be sent as a single attachment.
The entry fee of £2 allows you to enter one story. You may enter as many stories as you like, provided each entry is accompanied by the £2 entry fee. All fee’s will be used to contribute towards the prize and continued administration and hosting of the website. - Entry fees must be paid via the Paypal portal on the website
- 1st Prize £100, publication on the 5minutefiction.co.uk website and publication as part of an e-book short story anthology. The winner will receive a % of royalties received.
- 2nd Prize £50, publication on the 5minutefiction.co.uk website and publication as part of an e-book short story anthology. The winner will receive a % of royalties received.
- 3rd Prize £25, publication on the 5minutefiction.co.uk website and publication as part of an e-book short story anthology. The winner will receive a % of royalties received.
- Up to 20 additional entries will be considered for publication as part of an e-book short story anthology. All authors will receive a % of royalties received.
- All entries will receive feedback.
Public Voting Rules
To be eligable to vote for your top 3 stories from a selection of 10 (as selected by our panel of judges)
1. Voters can only vote once for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places
2. Voters will be asked to pay a small fee via paypal (0.10p via paypal) for their vote. This helps ensure only 1 vote per person.
3.Public voting will take place between 16th and 24th June 2012.
